Joana Santamans

(Barcelona, 1977) is a contemporary painter whose work explores the intersection between nature, the body, and lived experience. Her intuitive, gestural practice immerses itself in the organic world, where pigment and matter become a language of life. Working between Barcelona and the Empordà, she transforms her natural surroundings into a sensory and spiritual experience.

A graduate in Design and Art from EINA (Barcelona) with a postgraduate degree in Creative Illustration, Santamans approaches painting as an act of presence. Color, texture, and gesture arise from the body, revealing a deep connection with nature and inner vitality. Motherhood, the passing of time, and direct contact with the earth inform a body of work that moves between figuration and abstraction, between the visible landscape and the inner world.

Her series Roots and Mud exemplifies this dialogue between matter and emotion: pigments, textures, and gestures create a space where life and painting merge. In her work, gesture becomes prayer, matter becomes memory, and painting is a form of communion with the wild and the sacred.
